After getting ready, Arna and Sahas stepped into the living area. A delicious breakfast was already laid out on the dining table, and the two sat down to eat.
Suddenly, a voice echoed from behind them, drenched in mischief.
"Swagat nahi karoge humara?" — Aren't you going to welcome me?
Sahas and Arna instantly turned around. The moment Arna’s eyes landed on the figure standing there, her jaw dropped in absolute disbelief.
"Deva??" she gasped.
A subtle smirk flickered on his lips. "Ah, so you still remember me?"
Before anyone could react, Arna sprang up from the dining table and bolted toward him. Without a second thought, she threw her arms around Devansh, burying herself in a desperate, tight embrace. Devansh wrapped his arms around her just as tightly, pulling her close.
Back in high school, Devansh had been her absolute best friend. Seeing a familiar soul—someone who felt like home—standing right in front of her in this house overwhelmed her completely. Tears of relief and joy silently welled up in her eyes, spilling over her cheeks.
Witnessing the scene, Sahas walked over. Even though Devansh was his own younger brother, a sharp, bitter surge of jealousy clawed at Sahas's chest as he watched them holding each other. He couldn't stand it for another second.
Stepping in, he forcefully broke their embrace, separating them.
"Maintain some distance, you two," Sahas growled, his voice laced with unhidden envy.
Arna, still catching her breath, looked at Sahas with wide, glittering eyes. "Is he the special person you were talking about?"
"Yes," Sahas replied stiffly.
Unable to contain her gratitude, Arna threw her arms around Sahas this time, hugging him softly. "Thank you..."
Devansh chuckled, breaking the heavy tension. "So, Arna... you were dying to meet my older brother, right? Meet Sahas Kashyap—the CEO of Kashyap Industries."
Arna froze. Shock rippled through her as her gaze snapped back to Sahas. CEO of Kashyap Industries?!
Sahas looked down at her stunned face, his expression softening slightly as he revealed the truth. "When you were in high school, I was the one who sent Devansh there... solely for your safety. Luckily, given his helpful nature, you two ended up becoming best friends."
Arna stared at Sahas, her heart skipping a beat.
Does he... really care about me this much? she thought to herself, completely lost in his eyes.
Devansh stretched his arms, letting out a dramatic sigh. "Alright, you two go ahead and continue your little lovey-dovey stare-down. I'm heading to my room—we’ll talk more over lunch. Bye, Arna!"
Exhausted to the bone from his long travel, Devansh gave a lazy wave and disappeared toward his room, leaving Arna and Sahas standing in the silence that lingered between them.
"I have some work in my room, I'll be back," Arna blurted out before hurriedly making her exit.
The moment the bedroom door clicked shut behind her, she began pacing, muttering frantically to herself in utter panic.
"What on earth is happening to you, Arna?! Why is your heart beating so fast? Why are you overthinking this so much?!" She gripped her head, spiraling. "If things keep going like this, you’ll never get Karan back! You need to stay focused! But... how do I trap Sahas? How do I make him trust me? We’ve already shared a bed... we’ve hugged... now what? A kiss?!"
She violently shook her head. "No, no, no! You can't do that, Arna... But wait, maybe it’s fine? You can manage that much, right? No, you can't! Just do it, Arna—you don't have many days left!"
Just as her mind was racing in circles, a sudden knock echoed at the door.
Arna opened it to find Sahas standing outside. He stepped inside the room.
"Sahas..." she breathed out.
"Yeah?" He turned his full attention toward her.
"I’ve been thinking a lot..." Her voice trailed off, abruptly stopping mid-sentence.
"What happened?" he asked, searching her face.
"I... I was thinking about myself," she stammered, her heart threatening to burst right out of her chest.
(No, I can't do this... What should I do? My heart is beating way too fast! Just do it, Arna, it's literally a matter of five seconds! Nothing bad will happen!) her inner voice screamed.
"What is it, Arna? What were you thinking about?" Sahas asked softly, stepping closer.
Arna took a step toward him. (You can do this, Arna...)
Closing her eyes tight, she leaned in and pressed her lips against his.
Sahas froze in utter shock. For a few agonizing seconds, his brain couldn't even process what had just occurred. But as Arna began to pull back, his instincts kicked in. His hand shot out, wrapping tightly around her waist, and pulled her right back against his chest.
Unable to meet his gaze, Arna dropped her eyes, staring down at the floor, her cheeks burning.
"Are you really this comfortable with me?" Sahas whispered, his voice deep and laced with intensity.
Arna nodded weakly, letting out a barely audible, "Hmm..."
Cupping her chin, Sahas gently lifted her face so she had no choice but to look at him. With effortless tenderness, he tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
His eyes locked onto hers, burning with unuttered questions.
"Can I?" he asked, his voice a quiet murmur as he waited for her permission.
"Hmm..." she whimpered, letting out a soft, barely perceptible nod.
The second that permission left her lips, Sahas snapped. Any remnant of self-control he had been holding onto completely shattered.
Cupping her face tightly in both of his hands, he crashed his mouth onto hers, dragging her into a deep, bruising kiss. Arna’s mind went entirely blank; her senses reeled as the world spun out of focus, unable to process the sudden intensity of his sudden dominance. But as his heat consumed her, her own restraint withered away.
Her fingers tangled into his thick hair, gripping him tight as she began to kiss him back with equal fervor. Lost in the sudden blaze of desire, they devoured each other's lips—ravenous, breathless, as if trying to swallow each other whole.
